December Solstice marks the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of summer in the southern hemisphere. Since early times, many cultures have celebrated the solstices with holidays and festivals. No matter where we are and what tradition we follow, there seems to be a recurring theme: the light.
One of my beloved quotes with the most profound meaning comes from Natlie, my meditation teacher, who said, “In every single heart lies the memory of the light. It is waiting for the opportunity to open up.” I don’t know what this means to you, but I can tell you this.
We are now in a season of reflection and anticipation. This time is ideal for taking an inner inventory, appreciating yourself and others, and releasing what no longer serves you. You can elevate yourself by recognizing your gifts and letting go of the heavy burdens and weights that keep you away from loving yourself and shining your light. If you choose to embark on this transformative journey, first, you might find yourself in internal or even external conflict or judgment. I will share a meditation to help you overcome obstacles during this period, to ease the tension yet strengthen the connection with Self.

Meditation is a beautiful way to connect to and get to know yourself on a deep level. Invite yourself daily to have this intimate, deep connection with yourself through meditation. This practice will improve not only your relationship with yourself but those with others as well. You will become centered, peaceful, and accepting as you meditate more. On top of all this, meditation will also help with eliminating stress. Who wouldn’t want that?
Self-love Meditation Exercise
Find a quiet place and sit comfortably. Put your feet on the floor and allow your hands to rest on your thighs, palms facing up. Close your eyes and relax. Take a few deep breaths through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. Notice how breathing helps you clear your thoughts and brings you into the now.
From a comforting relaxation, take another deep breath through your nose, hold that breath for a moment, then exhale slowly through your mouth. Continue to breathe in your rhythm. Consciously relax your body as you rhythmically breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Imagine surrounding yourself with brilliant white light as you inhale, as if you were sitting under the bright rays of the sun, and release any discomfort and tension as you exhale. Repeat it as many times as you’d like.
Choose an affirmation that resonates with you to repeat silently or loudly as you focus on your heart.
Examples might be, “I love and accept myself.” Or “I am filled with joy, inspiration, and gratitude. I deserve to be happy, healthy, and loved.” Or “I am love, I am light, and I radiate from my heart. I am sunshine, pure and bright, I love myself all the time.”
Take your time and allow the love and the light to shift you and lift you up. When you feel complete, open your eyes and welcome the renewed you.
